MARRIAGE..... a blessing or a curse

MARRIAGE
An institution ordained from heaven, to be practiced on earth, man and woman both actor and actress respectively. marriage is the status quo in a typical African environment. when one especially a girl, attains a certain age and no man is in sight to ask for her age in marriage, such a girl is considered a failure. And if by luck or i rather say by chance, a man comes calling and willing to take you down the aisle, you are then regarded as a virtuous and a respectable woman.
Marriage is assumed to be sweet and without hurdles, after all that is what our mothers made us believe. They preached loyalty, long suffering, tolerance and respect for one's husband. but what they fail to preach is the hurdles, heart ache, betrayal and the long list of the vices of the men folk. we were never taught how to adapt quickly to the new status of being monitored, controlled and sometimes abused by a godhead after we had lived the better part of our early lives as single and free.
No wonder the rate of divorces keeps soaring day in and day out. Young adults should be taught on what to expect in marriage. i sincerely think marriage should not be celebrated with such glamour as practiced in Africa especially Nigeria because it is a beginning of lost freedom, lost privacy, constant giving and sometimes not receiving, and most frequently lost of happiness.
This is going out to all the ladies who had at one time or the other been abused by their partner, take heart and remember its never your fault
