British singer and song-writer Amy Winehouse was found dead today Saturday, July 23, 2011 at her London apartment according to numerous news reports.
The Metropolitan Police have released a press release which doesn’t mention the five-time Grammy Awards winner but reads ‘Police were called by London Ambulance Service to an address in Camden Square NW1 shortly before 16.05 hours today, Saturday 23 July, following reports of a woman found deceased. On arrival officers found the body of a 27-year-old female who was pronounced dead at the scene. Inquiries continue into the circumstances of death. At this early stage it is being treated as unexplained.
The 27-year-old had been known for her abusive use of drugs and had checked into rehab one too many times but couldn’t adhere from drug intake. With just two albums she garnered a lot of attention respect from the music pundits but it was her lavish and carefree lifestyle that made her most popular.
Winehouse’s management has released a statement earlier today confirming she was pulling her upcoming shows to focus on her recovery: ‘Amy Winehouse is withdrawing from all scheduled performances. Everyone involved wishes to do everything they can to help her return to her best and she will be given as long as it takes for this to happen‘.
